The idea of hypnosis is almost embedded in the human culture and it can be found in religious ceremonies in the different cultures of the world. People go in a trance like condition and perform unusual things, but the science behind this was yet unknown to us, till the discovery of the subconscious mind by Sigmund Freud in the last century. The hypnosis techniques are used today in gaining positive behavioral changes in human beings and hypnosis has showed its effectiveness in healing bodily pain. Professional and trained practitioners of the art of hypnosis use different techniques in hypnotizing individuals. Some of the techniques used in hypnosis include I) conversational technique II) Progressive Relaxation III) Handshake hypnosis IV) Hypnosis by concentrating on bright objects V) Hypnosis spiral and VI) Video hypnosis. Some of the popular techniques of hypnosis induce a sleep condition in the subject and thus one can converse with the subconscious mind of the individual.

In the conversational technique of hypnosis, the subject being hypnotized is not aware of the fact and the person hypnotizing has to build a kind of relationship with their audience. The hypnotizer leads the subject in a hypnotic state by conversation. The progressive relaxation technique uses the calming technique in which the subject feels that their limbs are getting calmer and quieter and thus a hypnotic state is induced. The handshake hypnosis technique is of brief duration in which non-verbal method like handshake is used to hypnotize the subject. Hypnotic stage is also achieved by making the subject concentrate for long on one bright object. Prolonged concentration on a bright object makes further concentration difficult for the subject and one goes in a hypnotic trance. Hypnotherapists use a spiral object to induce a trance like condition in the subject in the hypnosis spiral technique.
