Why is Peer Review Important in the Publication of Medical Research

When seeking information on the latest updates in the field of medicine the best place to look is in a peer reviewed scientific journal. Many publications do not utilize the process of peer review for its articles. By using peer review, much of this possibility is eliminated. All articles written concerning research projects to be published will be submitted to the editor of the journal in question. In the past reviewers have normally retained anonymity, both to the author whose work they have reviewed and the general public, preventing an author from launching a personal vendetta against a specific reviewer; however, in some instances editors have allowed an author to make a rebuttal to a reviewer who had criticized their work, particularly if an article received mixed reviews. Peer reviewed journals are generally easily distinguished from other periodicals.

Can Hypnosis Help to Eliminate Pain?

self hypnosis for pain relief
Sufferers of chronic pain such as arthritis have had considerable success with hypnotic pain relief.

Pain is a subject that touches everyone. After all, it is a human condition from which we all suffer at one time or another. There are headaches, dental procedures, sports injuries, broken bones, soft-tissue injuries, and psychosomatic pain.

Research shows that 75% to 80% of all adults will experience lower back pain at some time in their lives. Approximately 40 million Americans suffer from arthritis pain and as many as 45 million suffer from chronic, recurring headaches. There are thousands of people every year who suffer the agony of surgical interventions and thousands more who endure the pain of debilitating or terminal illnesses.

Self hypnosis is a powerful pain relief therapy

All of this pain falls into two basic categories: (1) acute pain, which is of short duration and (2) chronic pain, which continues for weeks, months or years.

Most people respond to pain - whether acute or chronic - by taking drugs of some kind. But drugs are often a temporary solution.

What few people realize is that the ancient art of hypnosis offers a safe, effective alternative for reducing sensitivity to pain.

Hypnosis works with your mind and the symptoms of your pain. It make themselves known through your mind.

Hypnosis has been shown effective in the management of various types of pain. Besides providing an effective solution for maladies such as headaches and acute injuries, hypnosis offers a unique solution for those suffering from chronic conditions like back pain and arthritis as well as intermediate and advanced stages of cancer. Studies show that patients with chronic diseases require fewer painkillers to achieve pain relief when they practice hypnosis. These same patients exhibit fewer signs of anxiety and experience greater comfort during medical procedures.

There is no threat in a self hypnosis pain relief program. The worst that might happen when you use self-hypnosis for pain elimination is that you could fall into a natural sleep.

Hypnosis also has been shown to be effective in reducing nausea and vomiting in chemotherapy patients.

The most effective approach for acute pain appears to be the use of hypnotic suggestions focusing on anxiety reduction and minimizing the importance of the pain. For chronic pain, it is more effective to confront the pain directly under hypnosis, dealing with both the pain's physical and psychological effects.

Another area where hypnosis offers significant positive results is in dealing with pre- and post-operative patients. Using hypnosis in preparation for surgery has been shown to reduce the experience of pain during surgery, resulting in the need for less anesthetics. Hypnosis as a pain management tool with surgical patients also has been shown to reduce nausea and greatly increase the recovery rate in most patients, thereby truncating the length of time spent in the hospital. (That creates another rarely mentioned positive result: reduced medical costs!)

But efficacy and lower medical expenses are not the only positives related to the use of hypnosis for pain management. This modality has no dangerous side effects. Unlike medications, hypnosis does not become less effective with use and does not require stronger and stronger doses to cope with pain. While patients may have to ingest costly medications several times a day for years, they have the potential for reducing or eliminating their pain in just a few hypnotic sessions for significantly less cost.

Does hypnosis always work? In the area of pain control, everyone can be helped to SOME degree. There are essentially five categories into which subjects fall:

1. Those who find total and permanent relief.

2. Those that have a decrease in the severity of pain.

3. Those who experience pain relief initially, but who need occasional reinforcement.

4. Those that experience intermittent relief.

5. Those that still have pain, but feel 10-30% less pain than before.

What accounts for these differences in relief? The answer appears to be the patient's susceptibility to hypnosis - the level of relaxation reached during the hypnotic sessions. The deeper the relaxation, the more effective the pain reduction.

Certainly, no treatment for pain - whether chemical, physical or psychological - is effective all the time. However, hypnosis has shown over and over again that it can help people reduce or eliminate both acute and chronic pain. Best of all, it works its magic without any side effects.

As a safe, effective alternative for reducing sensitivity to pain, hypnosis is second to none.

Creating Change with Hypnosis

change self hypnosis
Within limits, hypnosis can make changes in your body

Many of us would like to make some changes in our lifestyle and habits. However, it is often easier said then done. Hypnosis can be a great process for encouraging such changes to take place. Hypnosis is a state of mind similar to being in a trance. In this state, an individual becomes more aware, more focused, and more willing to accept changes. Hypnosis has often gotten a reputation for causing people to lose control. It is portrayed this way on many movies and talk shows. Generally, hypnosis is stereotyped with a person impersonating an animal or person at the request of the hypnotist. When they come out from under hypnosis, they don't remember anything about the performance they just presented to those in the crowd. The reality of hypnosis is nothing like that.

Hypnosis has many wonderful benefits such as an improved self-esteem, greater confidence and a happier life.

While under hypnosis you aren't thinking about the change, you are experiencing without question or critical thinking. This state allows you to explore your inner thoughts and processes without analyzing it. You remain in complete control of your thoughts and feelings, yet you are more willing to openly explore them.

Who might use hypnosis as a tool for change People commonly undergo hypnosis to make changes that they are having a hard time doing on their own including losing weight, to stop smoking, and to quit drinking. It is beginning to be used to improve relationships and self esteem as well. Hypnosis is considered to be a type of therapy that is very brief and works quickly. This type of therapy is often free or very low cost. For weight loss and to stop smoking, group seminars are often held that cost very little. Is it dangerous? While the medical profession and researchers continue to debate the success of hypnosis to make changes, they are all in agreement that hypnosis is not dangerous. You have the right and ability to exercise your free will anytime while under hypnosis. It uses the power of suggestion to encourage the changes to take place. Physicians, dentists, chiropractors, clergy, psychologists and psychiatrists are recommending hypnosis to their patients more often than ever before.

Hypnosis is a scientifically proven technique used to enhance your natural relaxation response. It encourages both mental and physical well-being and can help you change the way you react to stress

A great place to start Making changes under hypnosis occurs while the individuals mind is focused on the unconscious. Over 80% of our habits and behaviors are controlled by the subconscious. This being said, it makes sense that working with the subconscious to make changes is the right place to start. This would explain why we often slip back into our old habits quickly, no matter how much willpower we try to muster. The use of hypnosis to assist individuals to make positive changes to their habits and lifestyle is becoming more well known every day. The issue is very controversial. Some believe hypnosis puts a person into a trance where they can be programmed. However, the reality of it is that hypnosis allows a person to explore their subconscious without conscious thoughts getting in the way. Our habits and behaviors are controlled by the subconscious. We must get in touch with this level before we can make changes. While hypnosis isn't the only method of doing this, it is one of the most popular. It often works quickly and is inexpensive.

Positive Gains with Hypnosis

positive change hypnosis
During hypnosis, one uses affirmations or positive statements about themselves to counteract negative thinking or behaviors.

Over recent years, hypnosis has gained acceptance as a credible method of treatment within the traditional medical community. It is now recognized as credible by both the Mayo Clinic and the National Institutes of Health, as seen by the information provided on their websites.

Hypnosis has been proven to be effective in treating many physical, emotional, and mental concerns. These include pain control, weight loss, phobias, quitting smoking, sleeplessness, and many others. Historically, the alternative medicine community has accepted hypnosis as a valuable option in treating distress.

The process of hypnosis is rewarding, positive, safe and gentle. It is a proven method for overcoming anxiety.

Hypnosis is a process in which an individual goes into a trance, or a state of deep inner focus. The person stays in control and aware of their surroundings while in the trance, although their focus is channeled inward. A trance can be facilitated by another person, a taped recording, or by the person her or himself (self hypnosis). A common myth is that a susceptible person can be hypnotized without their consent, and this is just not true.

The hypnosis process introduces positive suggestions into the subconscious mind of a patient.

Techniques to induce hypnosis often begin with a process to relax the body. The subject is guided in a systematic way to tense the various muscles in their body and then to let go of the tension. Ultimately, the body reaches a very relaxed state. Counting backwards slowly, interspersed with affirmations of deepening relaxation, then serves to deepen the trance state. A guided image of walking down a stairway or descending in an elevator while counting slowly backwards can also serve to deepen the trance.

The purpose of inducing a trance is to bring the person to a very calm relaxed place, where the conscious mind has let go of control and the subconscious mind is more directly available. It is widely held that the subconscious mind is more receptive to suggestions than the conscious mind is, which allows changes to occur more rapidly.

Suggestions and affirmations are used when the person is in the deep trance to allow the new behavior or condition to take hold. These suggestions are most effective if they are stated in positive terms and in present tense. If the hypnosis is being used to support the psychotherapy process this is the stage in which the therapist may ask the person questions to draw out answers that the conscious mind wants to block.

Self-hypnosis is similar to meditation, with the self-directed inner focus, however the purpose is different. With meditation the desire is often to quiet the mind, while with hypnosis the aim is to create a positive behavioral or mental change in the hypnotized person.

The person who chooses to practice self-hypnosis can learn to talk him or herself into the trance state and then integrate suggestions that the desired change occurs. It is best if the person has prepared and rehearsed making the suggestions before going into the trance, so the process is smooth and the conscious mind does not become involved in thinking of what to say.

Hypnosis is clearly becoming a popular technique to enhance many areas of our lives, from pain control, to stress management, to athletic performance. So, although much about hypnosis remains a mystery, it has become a very credible and gentle option for creating positive change.

Anatomy of a Successful Hypnosis Session Part 1

hypnosis session
During hypnosis sessions, the therapist will probably teach you about self-hypnosis. You can also learn from tapes, but most experts advise learning from a qualified therapist.

Imagine that you want to take a trip. The first step in this process is to decide where you want to go — for example, from your hometown to San Francisco, California. What is your next step? Well, you cannot just point your nose in the direction of San Francisco and magically teleport to the City by the Bay. You have to do some planning. Will you drive, fly or take the train? How long will the trip take? What will you need to take with you?

At the end of the 19th century, Hypnosis, became has a popular phenomenon, in particular due to Charcot's public hypnotism sessions

The client who comes to the professional hypnotist is also planning a trip. S/he has every right to expect that the hypnotist will manage each detail necessary to ensure that the client's "trip" is successful. And just like a successful trip, a positive outcome to the hypnotic session is no accident. It is the result of following a specific procedure for each session. The first step in that procedure — the first step in the successful hypnosis journey — requires that the hypnotist provide the client with the information that the client needs to succeed. In other words, before the actual hypnotic induction, the hypnotist must educate the client about what hypnosis is and what it is not.

During an hypnosis session, you get into a deeply relaxed state, fighting tension and triggering your relaxation response.

The primary element here is to make certain that the client understands who has the responsibility for the success or failure of the hypnosis session. It is the CLIENT — not the hypnotist — who controls the outcome. The client must understand that the hypnotist is not a magician, that the hypnotist cannot MAKE the client effect the desired change.

Having said that, the hypnotist CAN create an atmosphere for optimal success by enhancing the client's imagination and imbuing the client with a powerful mental expectancy of success. How? The successful hypnotist will establish a positive atmosphere from the moment that the client first contacts him or her. It is imperative that the hypnotist employs the power of waking hypnosis to convince the client that the client has located a professional with the skills necessary to help the client solve his or her problem. Invariably, the client will ask whether the hypnotist can help. It doesn't really matter what the goal or the problem is. The hypnotist begins to build the necessary confidence by assuring the client, "Of course that can be done. We've helped with situations like this before." What the mind EXPECTS to happen tends to happen. So from that moment until the client arrives for the actual session, the client's expectation of success increases. And that expectation enhances the probability for a successful outcome.

Once the client arrives, the hypnosis session itself comprises three equally important parts: the pre-induction interview, the hypnosis session and the post-hypnotic interview. For the purpose of this article, we will examine the pre-induction interview. (The remaining two components will be covered in "Anatomy of a Successful Hypnosis Session - Part 2.)

The pre-induction interview consists of two parts: the information provided by the client and the information provided by the hypnotist. First, the client explains to the hypnotist what the client believes the problem is. It is not unusual for the client to miss the mark when self-diagnosing the problem. S/he is working from a conscious level, while the real problem may lie in the subconscious realm. Nevertheless, it is important for the hypnotist to listen carefully to this information. This interlude allows the hypnotist to learn about the client and to establish rapport — an element critical to success.

During the second part of the pre-induction interview, the hypnotist provides information to the client. It is the time when the hypnotist removes whatever fears or misconceptions the client may have about hypnosis. Why is this important? Because every subject accepts hypnosis in direct proportion to the amount of fear s/he has of the process. Contrary to popular belief, there are no bad subjects — only subjects who resist entering the hypnotic state. And what will prevent a person of normal intelligence from entering hypnosis? Fear.

The person who insists that s/he cannot be hypnotized because the person "has a strong mind" is actually saying that s/he is frightened of the process — frightened of "giving up control."

This fear, of course, comes from ignorance. That is why for the hypnotic session to succeed, the hypnotist must educate the client about hypnosis and remove that fear. A pre-induction interview provides the opportunity to present an in-depth discussion of how hypnosis works, what it can do and (just as importantly) what its limitations are. It is not enough simply to ask the client if s/he has any questions. The client may respond that s/he has no questions because s/he already knows all about hypnosis. And it turns out that what the client "knows" is that the hypnotist will control the client's mind and make the client do anything the hypnotist wants!

The hypnotist must be proactive about the pre-induction talk and dispel any such false notions. If the client is left with misconceptions, the client is left with fear. And as we have already seen, fear is the one thing that will cause a client to resist hypnotic induction. It is critical that the client understands (1) how hypnosis works, (2) what will happen during the session and (3) that the client — NOT the hypnotist — is in complete control.

As an added benefit, the pre-induction talk showcases the hypnotist's knowledge, enhancing the client's perception of the hypnotist as an authority. This, in turn, reinforces the client's expectancy of success.

———–

Part 2 of "Anatomy of a Successful Hypnosis Session" will consider the remaining components: the actual induction and the post-hypnotic interview.

Anatomy of a Successful Hypnosis Session Part 2

hypnosis session
During hypnosis sessions, the therapist will probably teach you about self-hypnosis. You can also learn from tapes, but most experts advise learning from a qualified therapist.

In Part 1 of "Anatomy of a Successful Hypnosis Session" we discussed the importance of the pre-induction interview. Through this process, the hypnotist creates an atmosphere for optimal success by enhancing the client's imagination and imbuing the client with a powerful mental expectancy of success.

In Part 2, we will consider the remaining two components of a successful session: the actual trance work and the post-hypnotic interview.

During an hypnosis session, you get into a deeply relaxed state, fighting tension and triggering your relaxation response.

The second component — the actual trance work — comprises four parts:

1. the induction

2. deepening the level of trance and testing

3. the therapy suggestions, and

4. the release

When many people think of hypnotic induction, they envision a hypnotist swinging a watch or pendulum to induce trance. Others may assume that trance is achieved through the use of a progressive-relaxation technique. Certainly, each of these can be effective. But which induction method is best?

At the end of the 19th century, Hypnosis, became has a popular phenomenon, in particular due to Charcot's public hypnotism sessions

The rule of thumb for any good hypnotist is: "The later in the day, the shorter the induction should be."

Think about it. The later it is in the day, the more tired the client is likely to be and a long progressive-relaxation induction could actually put the client to sleep! So the use of a rapid-induction technique (for example, the eye-closure technique taught by Dave Elman) makes more sense. It also saves time and is just as effective as fractional relaxation techniques.

After the induction, the hypnotist deepens the level of trance. This can be done in any number of ways, including:

- counting backward with disappearing numbers

- re-induction

- the arm-drop technique

- inferences and misdirection

Again, there are various techniques the hypnotist can use to test the client and determine whether the client has reached a working state of hypnosis. Some examples are

- the eye-catalepsy test

- the hand-clasp test

- the rigid arm test

- automatic motion

If with testing the hypnotist finds that the client is not at the desired level, the hypnotist can continue the deepening process through fractionation (i.e., repeated induction/awakening).

The third element of the hypnotic process is the actual therapy — the suggestions needed to create change in the client. This critical element — selecting the right therapy for the client — is guided by the information that the hypnotist gathers during the pre-induction interview. As discussed in Part 1 of "Anatomy of a Successful Hypnosis Session", it is not unusual for the client to miss the mark when self-diagnosing the problem. The client is diagnosing from a conscious level when the true problem lies in the subconscious realm. Nevertheless, this information is important to the hypnotist in developing a successful approach. If, for example, the client says that his or her problem is depression, simply providing positive suggestions to "feel better and better every day" will not work. A more effective approach would be to use non-directed regression to isolate the cause of the depression and reframe the experience to diffuse the effects of the trauma. The hypnotist would then follow this with strongly compounded positive post-hypnotic suggestions.

The fourth element of the hypnotic process is the release. The hypnotist brings the client back to awareness — usually with a simple counting technique — increasing the volume of voice and removing any sense of discomfort that the client might bring from the session.

Throughout this second component (the actual trance work), the hypnotist's most important tool is his or her voice. It is the bridge between client and hypnotist through which appropriate suggestions and guidance are delivered to the client's subconscious. And the subconscious mind is emotional, not rational. It responds best to emotional words and phrases. So the successful hypnotist uses a voice enlivened with emotion — not deadened into a monotone — to draw response from the client's subconscious.

The final part of a successful hypnosis session — the post-hypnotic interview — is the most overlooked and the most often neglected. Most people do not realize that the client remains in a hyper-suggestive state for 60-90 seconds after the client opens his or her eyes. This time can be used to maximize results by reinforcing or compounding the suggestions that were given to the client during trance. It is an opportunity for the hypnotist to use direct-suggestion techniques to create instant and permanent acceptance of those suggestions.

Considering all the elements required for a successful hypnosis session — the pre-induction interview, the session itself and the post-hypnotic interview — it is easy to see why a good hypnotist must be well-organized as well as skilled. Like the good travel agent, the successful hypnotist must plan each step of the hypnosis trip. The result of this careful planning and skillful execution is a positive outcome every time for every client.

Hypnosis Weight Loss

Hypnosis Weight Loss
The major difference between temporary and permanent weight loss is purely psychological. Undertaking a hypnosis weight loss program will help you learn to think differently about how and what you eat.

Hypnosis Weight Loss: Some Ways to Stop the Weighting

Controlling your weight and avoiding weight gain as you get older are important ways to prevent a host of weight-related health problems.

Indeed, if you are more than 20 pounds over your ideal weight, you are at greater risk for a rogues' gallery of potentially deadly conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, endometrial cancer, obstructive sleep apnea, and breast cancer.

As with any weight loss product or program, hypnosis is not a magical wand. Nonetheless, when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise, it can work marvelously

What's more, most people who are overweight tend to avoid exercise, and that avoidance just adds to the toll paid for extra pounds.

If you have a sedentary lifestyle and are overweight, you are at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and other health problems. And, if you already have a medical condition such as high cholesterol, being overweight puts you at higher risk for complications.

The good news is that even modest amounts of weight loss can improve your health significantly. Loss of 10% of body weight can reduce blood pressure, high cholesterol, triglyceride, and high blood sugar levels.

Both hypnosis and yoga are truly effective alternatives to supplements and drugs for weight loss

Today, there are many procedures that can contribute and help people loss weight effectively. One of the known procedure in losing weight is through hypnosis.

However, many misconceptions have come up with regards to the application of hypnosis in losing eight. And because it does not involve drugs or any kinds of medications and surgery, many people tend to think that losing weight through hypnosis seems to be one of the safest weight loss program.

Hypnosis is an extraordinary therapeutic tool wich is best known for successful weight loss, to help quit smoking, reduce anxiety or improve self confidence

To know more about hypnosis and its effects on losing weight, here is a list of some facts that will give you an insight about what it can do to your body weight.

1. Hypnosis can be an imminently risky if not done properly and not utilize by people who are highly trained with the real concept of hypnosis.

Even if many people tend to think that hypnosis will not pose imminent danger to their health, still, it is important to know that the person who will do the procedure is skilled enough and that he or she knows what factors to consider before doing the procedures.

2. Hypnosis alone cannot eliminate excess fat from the body and, therefore, make somebody lose weight.

Most health experts contend that hypnosis should only be a part of a whole assimilated process. It should never be used as the sole weight loss procedure.

Moreover, one session of hypnosis will only have very minimal results on an individual's weight. When losing weight, hypnosis matched with psychotherapy will be more effective than hypnosis alone. This is because hypnosis is only a state of deeply relaxing the mind, in which one can still be in control of his or her own body.

3. Hypnosis is one way of getting into the subliminal state of a person. When a person is on the "hypnotic stage," the body is more responsive to suggestibility because of its intensified state of concentration.

However, this does not necessarily mean that through hypnosis, one can already "reprogram" the mind of an individual.

In reality, hypnosis can only run the range from trouble-free relaxation condition to proper initiation managed by a professional hypnotists. Hence, it should not be considered paranormal and magical in its upshots.

Boiled down, people should be more aware that hypnosis is not a sole effective process in losing weight. It is more of a facilitator of various treatment techniques.

Therefore, it should be combined with other weight loss management program to be effective in making people lose excess weight. In this manner, people will be able to lose more weight with a more relaxed and refreshed state of mind.

As they say, a healthy mind is a healthy body.

Hypnotic Migraine Relief

migraine hypnosis
People who have migraine or cluster headaches may learn self-hypnosis techniques to get rid of them before they get too painful.

Hypnosis is not just an entertainer's trick to please and amuse crowds. Hypnotherapists are helping migraineurs ease their pain. Sometimes they are even able to relieve other migraine symptoms like vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound, too.

The hypnotist's goal is to relax patients into a trancelike state in order to access their subconscious mind. A good therapist will then place gentle suggestions in the subconscious that will help migraineurs deal with their pain by changing how they perceive it.

Rather than focusing on pain perception, some hypnotherapists work with patients to learn to identify and avoid their personal migraine triggers. This can be doubly effective for migraineurs who smoke if it is one of their triggers. Hypnotherapy has been a recognized smoking cessation technique for decade.

Some patients enjoy this type of therapy so much, since it usually very relaxing, that they decide, either on their own or with the aid of a therapist, to learn self-hypnosis. Oxford Hypnotherapy has a free downloadable book and audio course available on their website for people who would like to learn more about self-hypnosis. You can find it at http://www.hypnos.info/pages/freeselfhypnosis.html.

Hypnotherapy is an excellent option for patients who do not respond to traditional migraine therapies. It is a great alternative for those who are either sensitive to migraine medications or are unable to take them for medical reasons. Hypnotherapy is highly recommended for migraineur women trying to avoid medications during a pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Hypnosis is not magic. Patients are not under a spell or in the thrall of the person who puts them into the trance. Hypnotherapy is an interactive process between therapist and patient.

Hypnotherapy should only be undertaken with a certified hypnotherapist. To find a good one, check with the American Association of Professional Hypnotherapist (online at www.aaph.org) or the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists (www.natboard.com).

Sports Enhancement Through Hypnosis: Get Your Head in the Game!

sports hypnosis coach
Hypnosis and applied sport psychology can help achieve sporting excellence

“Get your head in the game!” is a now trendy slogan made popular by Disney’s highly successful “High School Musical” movie. When it comes to playing sports, for fun or professionally, pure talent no longer is a guarantee of sports stardom and success. Focus is the key, and those that have the skills for the game and the focus to keep their head in it, will come out stars.

One such believer may be heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. As a young, up and coming fighter, Mr. Tyson used sports hypnosis to become the heavyweight champion of the world. He certainly had the skills to be a fighter, but many believe it was his drive and focus that made him a champion. If you studied any of his early bouts, you would see the determination and concentration he had. Many sports stars use hypnosis, especially when they need to get out of a slump. But waiting until you are in a slump may not be the best choice. More than a few medalists in both Olympic Games have successfully used sports hypnosis to keep their focus and attention on the prize, they do not get second chances! Sports hypnosis has become so popular, that hypnotists have been hired by entire Olympic teams to make sure they bring home the gold.

There is a long history of using hypnosis in sport. it is often called with different names such as mental or autogenic training

Hypnosis works for enhancing your game, no matter what the sport. Is it a miracle worker? Will it take a person who can’t throw a baseball more than 20 miles per hour and 15 feet into a baseball star? No, absolutely not. Obviously, you need the skills before hypnosis can work its wonders. However, it can take a mediocre player and make him or her good or possibly great with practice.

How does hypnosis work and what happens during a session? The answer for that question really depends on the hypnotist or psychologist that works with you. There are many techniques and theories and can vary dramatically. Some techniques are as simple as visualization. Imagine you are a basketball player and you need to practice free throws. When you practice, you make the shots sometimes, but also miss many times. So you are practicing to miss, not practicing to make it. Of course one needs to practice but visualizing yourself making the shot every time builds confidence and esteem. It also sets the mind in motion to know what it needs to do. It has been proven that this type of visualization technique increases shot percentage. Try it yourself if you can. Stand on the foul line and take some shots counting your baskets and misses. Then close your eyes and go through the motions of making the shot (but do not actually shoot, don’t even hold the ball). Feel the motion of your arms, go through the shot and visualize, actually see the ball go in the basket. Do this numerous times until you feel you have the motion down. Then open your eyes, take the ball, relax, take a deep breath and shoot. Take the same number of shots as before relaxing prior each shot. Remember to keep track of your hits and misses. You should see a vast improvement. This can work with most any sport, for example, gymnasts should visualize their complete routine, over and over in their minds, never missing, always landing each move perfectly.

Again, there are many techniques and the example above was a simple one using pure visualization and did not include hypnosis. This alone as part of a sports psychology session can be helpful and learning to do these techniques on your own is invaluable. But to get the full potential, hypnosis can intensify the effects of the visualization. Do not be afraid of hypnosis. Be assured that you will not act like a chicken (unless of course you don’t mind, your sport is dancing, and your routine is the chicken dance) and you will not do anything you are not willing to do. Yes, one should always check the references of whoever you choose to work with and make sure you feel comfortable with the person.

So, whatever your sport, goal, or hobby; use hypnosis to increase your potential and get your head in the game.

Social anxiety disorder

Every time I was in a big group of people, in fact, I would get anxiety panic attacks. Social anxiety disorders are one of the most frequently debated subjects in the medical community. Social anxiety disorder treatments include herbs, drugs, therapy, meditation, and things so esoteric that they would be hard to explain. In the end, I was only able to cure my social anxiety disorder through sheer grit and perseverance. The meditation helped somewhat, nutrition and exercise helped somewhat, therapy helped a little bit, and the anxiety support group helped. My anxiety social disorder would not get better from avoiding groups. I knew that the only way to successfully face social anxiety disorder was to get up in front of a crowd.

Use hypnosis to bring the spark back to the bedroom

sexual dysfunction hypnosis
False memory obtained via hypnosis has figured prominently in many investigations and court cases, including cases of alleged sexual abuse. There is no scientific way to prove that any of these recollections are completely accurate

Research has shown that there is a very heavy link to the way our minds work and our sex lives, along with this all our emotions, thoughts and feelings are influenced by our sexuality which undoubtedly bonds them together.

By looking deeper into the mind and exploring all the possibilities it holds you can harness the power of your mind and the link between sexuality and use this to bring the spark back into your love life and bedroom. You and your partner will be able to build upon the relationship you enjoy now, but enhance the intensity of your sex life like never before. One excellent way of harnessing and using this power is by hypnosis, we already know the power that hypnosis holds, people have used it successfully to lose weight, stop smoking and get rid of fears and phobias that they have held for many years. If it works for these then imagine what it can do for your sex life.

One of the biggest problems with people's sex lives is the lack of ideas and more often than not the courage to go along with those ideas and turn them into reality. Woman more than men tend to have many inhibitions when it comes to new ideas in the bedroom, women have a tendency to hold back and not to voice what it is they want, what makes them happy, what makes them achieve orgasm. This is one way that hypnosis can be a great boost to the sex life, after a few sessions of hypnosis you will be able to lose those inhibitions and totally let go of worries and just let it all out.

For those who aren't as held back when it comes to voicing what they want and enjoy, hypnosis can still play an important role in boosting the sex life. Hypnosis can show and teach you how to relax more quickly and easily. It can show you how to turn up your sensuality and increase your sexual libido.

Self hypnosis can also boost the sex life and is fun in the bedroom, by hypnotizing your partner you are able to enjoy sexual pleasure much more intensely. By bringing self hypnosis into the bedroom and both partners learning the technique you are able to get into the mind of the other and take each other to new heights when it comes down to arousing the other, by teasing them and tantalizing them to the extreme. When under hypnosis the feelings are so much more exaggerated and when having sex this way feelings and pleasure can increase tenfold.

There are many ways to learn self hypnosis, a search online will lead you to many sites that offer books, DVDs and recordings, once learned the possibilities of what it can bring to your sex life are endless and are only limited by what you want to do.

Overcoming anxiety of stress with hypnosis

hypnosis for anxiety
Many women are now using hypnosis to help them reduce their anxiety and fear and have their baby naturally with no drugs.

Millions of people throughout the world suffer from anxiety caused by stress and even in its least severe form it can have an adverse effect on your health and day to day life. People suffering from extreme cases of anxiety can even become house bound, suffering from agoraphobia. While the majority of us can deal with stress and anxiety on a daily basis and let it go, millions throughout the world cannot and are forced to suffer a limited existence.

Hypnosis has a calming affect on the whole body that alleviates both stress and anxiety.

There are many ways that anxiety can be reduced, a doctor can prescribe medication and it might be advisable and needed at first. There are also many therapies available to those suffering including learning relaxation techniques and meditation. However, despite the wide variety of treatments, one of the most popular alternatives is hypnosis therapy.

There are different ways to take advantage of and use hypnosis. In the simplest form hypnosis can be done at home, all that is needed is to purchase one of many DVD`s or tapes that are specially prepared for home use and listen to it. The other option is going to a hypnotist who will guide you throughout a session or several sessions, in order for you to get on top of your problem.

Hypnosis has been scientifically validated as an effective way to treat anxiety, stress, depression, low self-esteem and other psychological disorders.

How does hypnotherapy work with anxiety?

Stress and anxiety and especially the symptoms that anxiety produces are all in the mind, meaning they are thoughts and feelings from signals that the brain sends out. In reality when suffering from anxiety you are tricked by your brain into thinking there is something wrong. If you were to just let the feelings pass without giving them any credence then they would simply disappear, however those who suffer don't. They hang onto the feelings and let them bother them; they believe that something must be seriously wrong for them to feel this way. The more they think and let the feelings bother them, over time these feelings get instilled in the mind and this becomes the natural way of thinking.

Hypnosis is a proven method for overcoming anxiety. The process of hypnosis is rewarding, positive, safe and gentle.

Using hypnotherapy changes the pattern of your thoughts, it brings you out of the stupor you have put yourself in and teaches you how to let these thoughts, feelings and worries go and come back to the real world. It brings back and establishes your pattern of free will, which through sheer terror you let go. You are then able to react to everyday occurrences and stress as you had previously before this took a hold of you. Hypnosis merely interrupts this new way of thinking that you have quickly let establish and returns your old way of thinking, thereby freeing you from the debilitating life that you have made for yourself and allows you instead to be the person that you once were.

Hypnosis is perhaps one of the best ways to overcome problems with anxiety as it focuses on the true problem at heart, the brain and its pattern. It is one of the safest ways and a way that anyone can go as the therapy can be undertaken in the persons home where they feel most comfortable.

Therefore, managing stress is an essential first step in undertaking any self improvement program.

There are five specific stress management products and services available that can support our self improvement. These are:

Hypnosis and yoga are both being broadly recognized for their general health and curative benefits for stress symptoms.

How to perform self hypnosis

Self Hypnosis
To fully benefit from self-hypnosis, don’t watch for certain signs or signals that you might be in a hypnotic state.

Hypnosis has been used widely in a number of situations and self-hypnosis techniques can be just as effective. However for it to be effective there are certain points that you should consider before performing self-hypnosis.

Of course it goes without saying that you should have your hypnosis session memorized. Other essential factors to get the most benefit from your hypnosis session include the tone of voice which you use, the pace at which you speak, the position you are in and the subject of your session. Learning how to hypnotize yourself isn't all that difficult and once you have learnt the basics then it's like riding a bike, you never forget how. Self-hypnosis has been likened to meditation in that it gives very similar results. Here is a simple technique which isn't hard to master and can be used in a wide variety of circumstances.

Self-Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind which can be defined as a heightened state of focused concentration, (trance), with the willingness to follow instructions (suggestibility).

Monitor your surroundings

You should also take into account your environment, factors which could make a huge difference to your session include the background noise, the lighting in the room and whether or not you are going to need any equipment such as for recording your session.

Start out by sitting erect but comfortable in a straight-backed chair and begin your session by taking in several deep breaths through your nose and letting them out gently through your mouth. While you are in the process of doing this gently let your eyes close and start repeating the phrase "My body is relaxed and limp." Your mind and focus should be solely on your breathing, breathe in through your nose for the count of three and exhale through your mouth for the count of 9, give a 3 second pause and then continue this pattern of breathing. The more you practice this stage the easier it will become for you to relax and begin to feel warm and limp. Once you are relaxed you can then turn your focus onto your legs be repeating to yourself "My legs are limp and heavy," if all goes well, your legs will indeed soon start to feel heavy and numb. This is the stage at which most people become alarmed and tense up, don't be alarmed, you are still in control of your legs but are deeply relaxed.

Self hypnosis is another variation of hypnosis treatment.

epeat this process throughout the rest of your body, your arms, hands, solar plexus, chest, stomach, head, and all of your body parts until you feel heavy and limp.

When you are totally relaxed and your body feels as though it doesn't belong to you, now is the time to focus on your problem. If you are self-hypnotizing to quit smoking then imagine your lungs feeling clean and you are a
